ROWAN
& MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN"Sock
It To Me!" Repro Button A 1.25" pinback button with a famous quote from
the classic TV series "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" with
a suitably 60's font and a rainbow background. Rowan
& Martin's Laugh-In (often simply referred to as Laugh-In) is an
American sketch comedy television program that ran for 140 episodes
from 1968 to 1973 on NBC. The
title of the show was a play on the "love-ins" or "be-ins"
of the 1960s hippie culture, terms that were, in turn, derived from
"sit-ins", common in protests associated with civil rights
and antiwar demonstrations of the time. "Sock
It To Me!" was an ongoing running gag. Judy Carne was often
tricked into saying "Sock it to me", which led to her being
doused with water, falling through a trap door, or otherwise
assaulted. During the September 16, 1968, episode, presidential
candidate Richard Nixon appeared for a few seconds with a
disbelieving vocal inflection, asking "Sock it to me?" (He
was not 'socked' but he did win the election.) Wear
it while go-go dancing, while painting ladies in bikinis, while
donning your bikini, while attending a love-in, or while boxing! See
